| Giardia |
| Giardia is a parasite that lives in many different water sources. Pets can contract this disease simply by drinking contaminated water. Symptoms include diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain and poor weight gain. While there is a vaccine available, it is expensive and not commonly used. However, vaccination is recommended for pets in a known contaminated area where breeding is likely to occur. Otherwise, the most common treatment is through prescription medication. |
